Her hair might be grey, but in her heart, there is a rainbow.

As soon as I saw Magdalena, I knew she was unique. From the grey hair, through the hip black and white outfit, to that special sparkle in her eyes, she definitely stood out. When I started talking to her, her interests turned out to be just as extraordinary.

“I am majoring in Korean studies at the Sofia University. It all started with K-pop, have you heard about it?”

​

Her eyes lit up when she found out we had a common interest. She told me about her favorite K-pop groups, 2NE1 and Mama Moo, and how she had been to a K-pop concert in Bucharest last summer.

“It was a dream come true.”

Magdalena studied French at the Blagoevgrad language school. She always had a love for languages and the fact that she could combine it with her passion for K-pop made her extremely happy.

​

“I remember how I used to mention to people from my high school about K-pop and they would look at me strangely. Now that I am at university, everyone is asking me whether I listen to K-pop. I don’t know why they ask me this so often - maybe it’s something about my appearance, or the increasing popularity of the genre. I feel so happy that I finally found people I can share this interest with!”

When I asked her how she sees herself in the future, she slightly furrowed her eyebrows, thinking.

​

“I will probably do a second major, maybe PR since this is something I have been interested in. I don’t know for sure. What I know for certain is I want to travel! I have been to England, France, Sweden, Austria, Macedonia and Serbia, and I want to keep exploring.”

​

As for the grey hair, she told me she had been “torturing her hair” since high school.

​

“Reds, purples, blues… My hair has almost been in every color of the rainbow,” she laughed.
